SsangYong is one of the major and prominent automakers in South Korea, with a long history in the production and manufacturing of crossover SUVs and off-road vehicles. Until a few years ago, this Korean company did not receive much attention in the global market due to its unconventional designs in vehicle manufacturing, and its products were not considered popular among the general public and did not appeal to a wide range of buyers. However, over time and with the intensifying competitive environment between Korean and European automakers, SsangYong also decided to make a fundamental change in the design of its products in order to outpace its rivals. It must be said that it succeeded in this endeavor and was able to create a remarkable transformation in its products.
However, the history of this South Korean brand in Iran dates back to 2006 (1385 in the Iranian calendar), when Morattab Khodro began assembling and marketing the second-generation SsangYong Korando at the TOPCO production facility. As a result, this model became widely known in the Iranian market as the Bonro Korando. Founded in 1954, SsangYong Motor began assembling Jeep vehicles for the U.S. Army in 1964. At that time, with virtually no other domestic automakers in South Korea, the company introduced the vehicle to the civilian market in 1969 under the name Korando—a name derived from the words "Korean Can Do," reflecting the slogan "Korea Can Do." Production of the first-generation Korando continued until 1996, when the second generation was introduced. Manufacturing of the second generation lasted until 2006, and in 2010, the third-generation Korando was launched as a modern crossover SUV. Notably, both the second and third generations of the Korando were officially introduced to the Iranian market.
